Ankle Pain

Ankle Pain in Gig Harbor, WA

From long endurance runs on weekends to wearing those towering high heels out on a date, there are many reasons why you may find yourself dealing with achy, tired, or painful ankles the next day. While you might be able to pinpoint this discomfort when it happens to you, other times you may not understand what’s causing you pain. When this occurs, our Gig Harbor, WA podiatry team is here to answer your questions and provide your ankle with the quality care it needs to heal quickly and efficiently.

Common Causes of Ankle Pain

There are many reasons someone may develop ankle pain. If your pain is severe or if you can’t put weight on your ankle, then you must seek immediate medical attention. The ankle is incredibly delicate, which makes it susceptible to injury. Common causes of ankle pain include:

  • Strains and sprains
  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Fractures
  • Tarsal tunnel syndrome
  • Gout

While more strains and sprains may be treated through ample rest and home care, if you’re dealing with an ankle injury or persistent pain it does warrant seeing an experienced podiatrist. After all, more intense injuries or chronic conditions will require different treatment and care than minor injuries, and the sooner you get the treatment you need the better for the long-term health and function of your ankles.

If ankle problems are properly treated this can lead to long-term instability, weakness, pain, and inflammation. It is our job as your podiatrist to make sure that any ankle problems are properly treated.

When you come into our practice, we will perform a comprehensive evaluation that will include a physical exam (where we check range-of-motion and mobility of the ankle) and run imaging tests such as x-rays to look for fractures, inflammation, or other internal signs of an injury, disease, or disorder. Imaging tests can give us an inside look into what’s going on so that we can provide you with an effective and custom treatment plan.
